In Home Family Session

Have you ever considered having an in home family session? Why or why not?

Most of the family sessions I photograph take place outside. Whether it’s the beautiful fall foliage or the colorful spring flowers, families love having their photos taken in nature. Don’t get me wrong, I love photographing families outside, however I think having a session in your house can be just as amazing.

Benefits of an In Home Session

  • Don’t have to drive anywhere – you know how stressful it is to get everyone ready and then have to drive to the location of the session.
  • Preserve memories – hosting your session in your home allows me to preserve how your home looks right now. Imagine looking back at these photos 20 years from now and seeing not only your family but where you lived at that exact period in time.
  • Photos will look beautiful on your walls – because we are using your home as the backdrop of the photos, you know they will look good hanging on your walls.
  • Less stressful for the kids – when kids are allowed to be on their own “turf” they are more relaxed more quickly and it shows in the photos. In addition, if they need a break or a snack, they are already home – easy peasy.
  • Weather is less of an issue – if we are shooting inside, we can shoot when it’s raining or in winter when it’s too cold outside.

New Family of Six

This session was very special to this family, they had recently grown from a family of five to a family of six. Having a baby is certainly a wonderful reason to get updated family photos.

I started this session with a few photographs of the front of the house. I wanted to start telling this family’s story with a photo that feels like a new beginning.

Of course, I wanted to make sure we got some traditional family photos of everyone looking at the camera. How cozy do they look all snuggled on their couch?

The addition of this little guy was the main reason for our session but his siblings made sure he didn’t steal the whole show. These kiddos were so sweet with each other and with their new little brother. He sure does have a fan club!

After making sure I had plenty of family photos, I wanted to make sure we got some of the baby with just mom and dad. We moved into his nursery for these shots. Another benefit of having this session at their home, we made sure to get photos of his sweet nursery.

I am such a sucker for photos of babies and their dads. Look at that sweet face and those big eyes!

Lastly, we made sure to get some photos outside. This family had a beautiful yard that was perfect for a few photos at sunset.

Because I opened the session with photos of the front of the house, I knew I needed to close the session with a few photos of the family in front of the house. Beginning to ending.

We wore him out. Nothing as sweet as a sleeping baby.
